Round 4 of the UCI BMX Supercross World Cup season got underway in Santiago del Estero in front of an enthusiastic Argentinean crowd. The Chase Factory riders Connor Fields and Joris Daudet were ready to climb in the overall standings and were pre qualified to the Super Final Time Trials. Along with Anthony Dean, Renato Rezende, Carlos Ramirez
The Super Final TT puts the top 16 in World Cup points in a battle against the clock for the fastest run on the Supercross track. Connor Fields rode a ultra fast run, that had him in the lead just until the last rider, Liam Philips took to the track, just edging out Connor by .060 of a second. Still an impressive day for the 5 Chase supported riders, as they were all in the Super Finals!
Under perfect racing conditions most of the favorite riders made it through to the final program on Sunday after racing the three qualification rounds. Once the single elimination format of BMX Supercross racing started, it was nothing short of spectacular in Santiago Del Estero when the qualified riders got to line up on the gate.
Racing in the Elite Mens class was stacked from the drop of gate #1 in the 1/8th finals on Sunday, but Connor, Joris, Anthony, and Renato all made their way through after the 3 motos to head into the single elimination 1/4 finals. Unfortunately for Joris, one small mistake would hold him back to 5th in the 1/4 finals ending his day. Connor, Anthony, and Renato would all ride their way into the Elite Mens main event, an impressive accomplishment on its own.
When the gate dropped for the final, it looked to be an all out horsepower battle, as the Elite men charged down the hill and were bar to bar down the first straightway This is where Anthony Deans shot at a podium finish ended, as he got tangled up and crashed. Connor and Renato raced on, but Maris Strombergs put down a perfect lap and took the win. Renato would edge out Connor for 5th, with Fields finishing in the 6th spot. Anthony would get back unharmed and finish in the 8th spot.
In The Elite Women’s main event, Melinda McLeod had her best finish on the World Cup Circuit on Sunday, with a 3rd place in the main event. Melinda was riding strong and consistent all day, and had a strong start, but was coming for an outside gate in the final. She worked her way into 2nd, behind eventual winner, Mariana Pajon, and unfortunately made one small mistake going into turn 2, giving Alise post the opportunity to pass. Melinda regrouped, and rode her way onto the podium, with the 3rd place finish.
Now with just 1 stop left on the tour, the riders will go for the overall titles in 2 weeks time in Chula Vista, CA for the 5th stop of the 2014 UCI BMX Supercross World Cup Tour. Anthony sits in 2nd place overall, with Joris and Connor just behind him, so make sure if you can, make your way to USA Olympic training center to catch the racing in person, or watch it live on www.BMXlive.tv
